Last year, I purchased a Cabelas Cahill Fly Fishing Outfit so I could have a fly fishing combo for my friends who wanted to learn to fish the Salmon River in NY. I paid $39.00 for this fly fishing combo and you can read about it here. Lots of good fish were caught on that fly fishing outfit.
Yesterday, I went to get the reel from the case I had it stored in so I could add a loop to it. My friend who used it previously had stored the rod and reel in the case and had left the reel on the rod. The screw was really tight and as I was unscrewing it the reel just came off and dropped to a carpeted floor.
The edge of the reel broke. I was not happy because I really liked the combo and having to get another is always a pain and who wants to spend money. I had heard that Cabelas had a good warranty on their waders so I googled “Cabelas warranty”. I read carefully and it looked like “Cabelas’ brand merchandise is guaranteed for one full year.” I was under a year so I get on chat support with Cabelas. I provided my transaction number and I stated that the item had broken and it was a Cabelas’ item. I then provided a picture of the broken item.
The customer service agent told me that the item was no longer on their site and catalog but would a gift card for $34.00 be okay? I paid $39 for it and my NYC attitude wanted to ask for $39 but I figured since I had used it a loss of $5 is nothing. I told her that yes that would work. I then asked if I should send the item back and she said no just keep it. Wow. I was really floored by my experience with Cabelas. It took 10 minutes and I was totally sold on their customer service.
As I have said on this site I’m new to fishing and new to the outdoors. Up until a few years ago I would have never even thought about shopping at an outdoor store. I know Nordstroms and Barneys but I have never heard of Cabelas but based on my experience today I was a really happy and satisfied customer.
