Eyes On The River Report

October 26, 2017 by Salmon River Newbie Leave a Comment

Yesterday on Wed October 25th I fished the upper river and DSR. The upper river had some dark salmon and a few steelhead visible. I hooked into a few salmon trying to get to steelhead. I was only able to hook into one steelhead that just ran downstream and broke off. I then headed down to the Douglaston Salmon Run, and I read the report before, and it said things were slow. In the last year, I have noticed that the Douglaston Salmon Run reports have been conservative. Usually, when they report it was slow I often found some fish, and when they said it was on fire, the river was really on fire. Unfortunately, their report was dead on, and I walked and fished from low to upper and only saw one steelhead landed and no fish movement. The report was accurate, and it was a lovely day with unusually warm fall weather but just no fish movement. Water was a bit cloudy from the rain the day before.

If you are going to be fishing, I would recommend the Wires, Ellis or Pineville and above. One thing that I recommend is to look for bends in the river. The bends in the river where the fast and slow water meet is where you will find Steelhead.
