I fished the Salmon River today from 2 PM to 7 PM. I fished below North Trestles and fishing pressure was very heavy but there was plenty of fish. I hooked up 10 times within an hour. I then moved from the Trestles to Ellis Cove and was also able to hook multiple times. Again lots of pressure but there was enough fish for everyone to be happy. One of my sources who fished Ellis Cove today said everyone around him was limiting out. I then moved to the Wires and there was more fish. The Wires parking long was really overrun and you had to park almost a quarter mile down due to all of the vehicles. However, fishing was there also.
I spoke to some fish cutters up and down the river and all the fish cutters were really happy today. Most fish cutters I know to tend to be a little bit jaded but today most of them were happy. Most cutting stations were busy with a waiting line.
Anglers I spoke to also stated that there are constant hookups for Steelhead. I hooked into a Steelhead in Ellis Cove right behind some salmon. The heaviest action for Steelhead seems to be down by the lower Staircase.
