Salmon River Fishing Report October 10th 2019

The weather in Central NY has been unbelievable and the leaves turning are really beautiful. The tug region is world-famous for its leaf change. Unfortunately, the good weather and warm is not doing any favors to anglers. The beauty of the Salmon River is that even when the reports are being gloomy about the movement of fish you can see hook up with a few fish. It just requires patience.

As of 11 PM I received from different sources that fish are being very active tonight. The only problem with this is that the Estuary has made no difference to the rest of the run. I think tomorrow will follow the usual pattern.

The anglers that we spoke with told us they had a good time and that fish are unpredictable so not to stress out about the big push. Seems like everyone was gloomy.

Fishing was good from upper Blackhole through the Staircase and up to the ballpark.

The fishing was best from Trestles to the School House. The fly zones were doing exceptionally well.

here is the problem years ago they would raise the water at nite to 750 then lower it to 350 by morning now they don’t and the reason they is the dsr run the river not the dec that way the fishing is the way it is

      Frank,

Thanks for your insight on this and I do agree that water level might be an issue but I don’t know about the DSR and DEC colluding. Based on some of my sources the lack of fish is hurting DSR as much as the rest of the river.

I think everyone is really puzzled about how things are going.
