Salmon River Fishing Report October 16 2019

October 17, 2019 by Salmon River Newbie Leave a Comment

We are now coming to a culmination of the Salmon 2019 season. There have been no major runs but it looks like tomorrow might be the day all of the ingredients of a run come together. Even today there have been signs of it with some activity this late afternoon. Shane Muckey who has years of experience and is a weather geek is predicting that Thursday will be the day. One thing to remember and the reason why I am being reticent to jump up and down is that the Estuary has been very fickle this year. Even with all the right ingredients, the Estuary has disappointed us this season so I am just holding my breath.

Late this afternoon Douglaston Salmon Run reported that there was a prolonged activity from the Estuary into the DSR. Much like the rest of us, the DSR has been anxiously waiting for a run. Last week they reported that with the weather that this could be the week. In a deleted post they thought that there could be an explosion mid-week. However, they deleted that because again the Estuary has been so fickle.

In town, there was some initial activity but it died down in the late morning. In the early evening, there was a report from different sources that a group of salmon was passing through from the staircase to the ballpark. So based on this we are thinking tomorrow’s storm might be inevitable.

If tomorrows run happen most fishing will be concentrated down low from Ball Park down to DSR. The fly zones are doing well with less pressure.
