I have received multiple opinions about what is happening on the lake. On our Instagram we posted up a story of a video from another “guide” who had a sonar map who gave the impression that the lake was full of staging fish. I received multiple messages that the GPS was not of the lake but of the Estuary. Not sure if they were actively trying to be deceptive but it made lots of people’s expectations really high.
Based on all of the info I received I think the conservative conclusion is that there are fish that are gathering and staging. However, the fish are entering in spurts and running the river in the middle of the night. Is there going to be a big push? I am not sure but it is still possible. However, regardless of a push or not if you want to catch fish you will be able to hook up. It usually requires a bit of work but that is part of fishing.
The reports from Douglaston Salmon Run have been conservative however most of the anglers that I spoke with were saying that there are fish in the run and it is not a big push but its a good time. It seems like the novice anglers are the ones that are struggling and giving a more negative report.
Anglers saw a good spurt of fish from the Little Black Hole to the Ball Park. However, things died down until after 2 PM. There was consistent movement of ones or twos through the Ball Park.
Most of the fishing has been best from upper Sportsman to the School House. Fish are not stopping at the compactor as in previous years they are just moving through and then getting hammered at the Trestles. Fish that pass the trestles are hiding out in the nooks and crannies in Ellis Cove.
Fishing continues to improve in Oswego with the wall as it is starting to produce fish that are biting on skein. The dam continues to fish well for kings and some steelhead and browns.
Burt dam or 18 Mile Creek are starting to see fish move up past the Trestles and up to the Dam. So big browns are being caught at the Dam. Please do not eat the fish at Burt, shower and clean all your equipment including your boots. Try to remove all dirt from it.
The Oak is again starting to fish well and the fish are moving fast through to the Dam. Crowds should be pretty heavy at the dam as fish stack up there.
