March 21 2015
On Friday we had cloudy conditions and the temperature was in the 30’s. The fishing pressure picked up as anglers started arriving for the weekend. The upper end of the river between Altmar and Pineville continues to get the most fishing pressure on a daily basis. The mid to lower end of the river is a good choice if your trying to avoid the crowds. The Lower Fly Zone has been getting heavy fishing pressure but is producing steady action on a daily basis. With the low clear water conditions the fish continue to be holding in the deep holes. In the upper end of the river the fish have been holding in the Lower Fly Zone, Schoolhouse Pool, Wire Hole, Ellis Cove, Trestle Pool, Pineville, Ace in the Hole and Sportsman Pool. In the lower end of the river fish have been holding in the Papermill, 81 Hole, Town Pool, Longbridge, Staircase, Black Hole and DSR. Anglers who are fly fishing have done well with black stoneflies, pheasant tails and hare’s ear. Anglers who are bottom bouncing or float fishing have done well with blue or pink egg sacs, trout beads, pink worms and steelhead jigs.
