On Saturday we had sunny conditions with plenty of sunshine and the temperature reached into the 60’s. The least amount of runoff and best water clarity continues to be in the upper end of the river between Altmar and Pineville. Yesterday the majority of anglers stopping into the shop that we spoke with reported having a slow day. Anglers staying in the motel put in a full day and said they worked hard for the few fish they got. The anglers who had the best results fished the side channels or diversions off the main river along with some of the smaller local tributaries. For those anglers who are fly fishing orange, pink or chartreuse egg patterns under a strike indicator or swinging bright colored marabou spey flies have produced results. For those anglers who are float fishing or bottom bouncing, pink and chartreuse egg sacs, steelhead beads or pink worms have also produced results.
SUGGESTED PATTERNS:
Steelhead Hammer in orange, blue, red, size 8.
Glo-bugs in pink, orange, chartreuse, size 8
Sucker spawn in pink, chartreuse, orange, size 8.
Hot Bead Woolly Buggers in black, size 10
Double Beadhead black stone, size 10.
Beadhead black stone. size 6-10.
Wiggle stone in chart, pink. size 10
Steak-N-Eggs in orange, pink, chart. size 10.
