Douglaston Salmon Run Daily Fishing Report

Fishing Report Oct 16 End of day
10/16/2017

The weather is sure feeling a lot more like Steelhead season. Windy, cold rain, and overcast skies. Reports from our anglers is a mixed report. Some anglers had a good day (“There are a lot of Steelhead down there”) to others that seemed to struggle to get into a fish. Like it so often is, cover water, change flies, and try to hit that “sweet spot” that produces like no others. Under any circumstance, however, the mid section fished the best for those that had success.

light drizzle falling as of mid-morning, making for a raw day – King salmon being reported throughout the run, providing fair action, however the Steelhead are providing most of the action, primarily in the middle and upper sections – a guide provided a helpful hint: the Kings are there, they are just hunkered down, holding in deeper water, and you have to trust your technique since you will not be able to sight-fish for them

a cool, overcast, calm day – forecasted only to get up to 48 F today! Slight chance of showers, CFS 335 / 442, water temp is 56 F – River Patrol as of 7:45 AM reports most of the action in the upper section, with a mix of predominately Steelhead, with a few Kings, and a solitary Coho – middle section producing a few King salmon, lower section essentially inactive
